About The Artwork

© Richard Martin Vidal curvisme - curvismo - curvism The battered woman - Ravensbrück Acrylic and ink - 90 cm x 145 cm Ravensbrück will be a Nazi concentration camp exclusively for per- sons located some 90 km from Berlin. The two main objectives of this concentration camp were the exploitation and extermination. To Ravensbrück, the Nazis will register 132,000 gifts and 20,000 homes. Some of them will be Neus Català, deported on February 1944, or Virtudes Cuevas, who hi passà cinc anys. In total it is estimated 400 people from the Iberian peninsula. It is estimated that more than 92,000 people will die. Brief description of the composition of the project The background simulates an iron plate making a metaphorical comparison in reference to the fact that in many periods of history women have been trampled. The deformation of the body and the face are parts that reflect the suffering. In the woman, two symbols of the Jewish gypsy (Sinti) appear. The only part of the body that is not deformed is that of the breasts, in reference to the view that women still have as an object of desire.

Richard Martin Maya Born in 1968 in Zürich, my origins come from two very different cultures that have influenced the moment and the way of working where there is a constant search for balance between the logical and the more Mediterranean part. “Art is an adventure in an unknown world, different for each viewer.”
