The Battle of ‘Myth’yanagar Painting

This scene came to me in a dream, a few years ago while I was camping in a small town in India. It was so real and vivid that I felt as if I was a witness to this battle. Since, I was travelling and not having my art materials around, I attached multiple sheets of paper to sketch out my dream and from there the whole scene took a life of its own. I spent almost two years on it, experimenting with various styles until arriving on a style that ultimately worked. It was a long arduous journey to carve out each and every single character out of thick paper and bring it to life through colours. Days turned into weeks into months into years till I finally breathed life into that dream I saw years ago. The battle of ‘Myth’yanagar is the title I derived from the English word myth which also has a similar sounding word in Hindi and Sanskrit; Mythya. Its to denote our common history as a global civilisation, the commonalities of all epics, what Joseph Campbell described as the Hero’s Journey. Once the viewer gets to interact with this art up and close he will find the hidden elements of spirituality embedded inside the artwork. I hope and pray that once a viewer lays eyes into this world he’s transported back in time and feels mesmerised. I would like to add that I didn’t choose any mediums, the artwork decided for itself what it wanted.
