About The Artwork

Like most of the Impressionists, Monet usually painted summer landscapes in bright lively colours. But he also loved the winter, and was one of the first to paint snow scenes out of doors. These works presented a new challenge for the winter landscape has little natural colour, and closer observation is needed to detect the subtle variations in tone and shade. In this picture Monet shows a lane in Normandy after heavy snowfall. Beneath the pale, cloud laden sky the lane, banks and trees and barn roofs all lie covered in a blanket of white. But within the white, Monet finds numerous tones of a dull blue-grey. A dark shade marks out the frozen stream on the right, and theshapes of the distant trees. A paler shade defines the cart tracks in the snow and the shadows on the barn roof. Another more yellowy glow is found in the sky which is reflected back in the lane and untouched snow on the bank. Monet strikes one note of contrast with the dark shape of the farm cart.

I have been very fortunate to have had an incredibly rewarding day job as an Architect with its creativity and variety. My other huge passions are music and artwork and have always had varying amounts and types of art going on throughout my life. The aim recently has been recreating wonderful images I have admired all my life to give people, with a desire for something beautiful, to treasure display and admire in their homes. It has been a hard discipline reproducing methods of a number of completely diferent aritists of the past, different textures, colours, ways of applying paint has been testing but very, very rewarding!! Thank you Carl Ince
