The Couple Painting

This painting is my diploma work inspired by memories of my grandparents who lived in Cuba. I realized that painting my relatives that I missed for a long time could be a way how I could stay close to them. It has been about 10 years since I visited them last time so in 2019 I started to plan my trip there. I wanted to collect some research materials for my diploma work because I had an idea to paint both of my grandparents in the house interior where they spent all their life. Unfortunately, I have never made it on time to see both of them. Since the coronavirus pandemic started it was impossible for me to go there. Very soon after that, my grandmother fell ill and died of cancer. It made me look at the idea of painting them from a different angle: now it was more about absence, memories, and the impossibility to be close to someone you love.
