About The Artwork
A painting I did inspired by a story I developed as a teenager. A married couple who were near polar opposites in tastes are one day drowned in a boating accident. The romantic girl is reincarnated as the romantic mermaid while her pragmatic husband is reincarnated as the humorless shark. A passing fishing boat spies the beautiful mermaid and attempts to capture her, but the shark husband, in a last desperate act to show his love for his wife, bites through the net that entangles her, setting her free. He is then harpooned by the fishermen. The image depicted here is of the mermaid saying farewell to her husband, thanking him for this act of love before he dies.
