About The Artwork

”I painted this piece with a lot of time on my hand, so I had a lot of time to work on every detail and feel every brushstroke. This work is part of a series of five works that form the sentence “Why the fuck do old men still rule the world”. I am aware that this is not a very subtle message, but we have been subtle for a long time now. It’s time for a change. Unfortunately I have not been able to finish the series because – funny coincidence – corona forced us to stay home, and since women and childcare were not on any political agenda, I (like most of my peers) was thrown back into the 1950s, with household and childcare dominating my everyday life. That’s exactly what I have been trying to transport with this series… ” - Sabrina Meissner

Sabrina Meissner grew up in North Africa and Southern Germany and is a Munich-based contemporary artist. In search of freedom, she travelled extensively and has lived and worked across Europe, Asia and Australia. In equal measure, she was looking for security and stability and chose a path that would provide both to a certain extent. In light of her own story, Sabrina has developed her own distinctive style which make her abstract portraits very recognizable and attractive for collectors. A strong use of contrasts and helmet-like hair in abstracted architectural and neo-surreal settings are the main distinctive features of Sabrina’s works. She invented her own way of painting faces which became one of the hallmarks of her style. Sabrina works with roller pens and acrylic on canvas, watercolour paper, cardboard or wood. In December 2019, one of her paintings was chosen and shown as part of a digital group exhibition at Art Basel Miami. Her works were also shown in group exhibitions in Germany and Italy, and in 2020 her submitted body of work was awarded the “Review Me” prize. Her works are hanging in private collections in Germany and the United States.
