By creating this painting, she hopes to honour and bring awareness to the suffering of non-human animals. The icon was painted on a traditional wooden board using the Wax Tempera Technique, with the addition of gold and silver leaf. The board itself creates a protective frame for the fox, who is depicted with a halo. Some have argued that halos are reserved for human saints, but in Basia's view, no one deserves to be painted with a halo more than non-human animals. This icon is a powerful reminder of the importance of respecting and protecting all living beings and of the transformative power of art to inspire change.
