The Hook Painting

This was the penultimate abstract expressionism piece I did (shortly before converting a large artboard I'd been using as a massive splatter guard and palette into the final piece in the series) after failing to complete my college art courses and retired from art for a time to make music and write comics instead. The piece represented the culmination of three years of examinations into abstract expressionism, and the final coat was painted in primary colours in homage to one of my all time favourite albums, Synchronicity, by the Police. The piece was built up sculpturally with found art objects such as broken glass and pottery, disgorged electric typewriter ribbon cartridges, guitar strings, kiln tripods, and medical gauze bandage. Then a few applications of paint were dripped, splashed and slashed across the entire piece. All in all, it took a few months to make, and was the pride of my collection. Sadly, after years of struggling to keep the piece from bowing or falling apart, the unthinkable happened: one of our cats knocked the piece over and it shattered on the floor. The remains were thrown out in the middle of the night, and I had only managed to get a couple of medium grade photographs that SaatchiArt may not even allow me to print.
