Contact us.Karl Allen is a British painter based in Brighton. Trained at Central Saint Martins, his practice spans painting, film, live performance and wearable sculpture, developed across London, New York and Miami before his return to the UK.
His current series, Algorithmic Witness, is a response to the digital forces shaping contemporary consciousness. Where earlier work excavated memory through the lens of trauma, this body of work emerges from the trauma of others as he witnesses it, algorithmically curated: large acrylic and pastel paintings on canvas and paper that ask what identity even means when so much of what forms it, what we see, think about and feel, is no longer chosen but curated for us.
Karl works from his studio in Brighton and welcomes collectors, gallerists and curators for online studio tours.
