A bold and contemporary oil painting of the Lake in Kew Gardens. The initial layers of this artwork have been built up and blurred, creating a soft daydreamy atmosphere. This is then partially overpainted, using bold brushstrokes to illustrate the deep green foliage lining the lake and expressing the dark streak across the lake surface, taking your eye towards the receding trees that lighten in the distance. Sunshine is falling on the mid ground, breaking through the light cloud in the sky.This contrasts with the deep shadow beneath the trees, recreating the feeling of standing beside the water, gazing across the lake. This artwork blends the balance between the subject and the abstract, exploring the memory of this serene place and experience. Ready to hang. Lizzie Butler is an expressive, semi abstract artist, who works in a contemporary style in oil. Her strong spatial awareness and a passion for working en plein air, inform her practice and lead to paintings that recreate the intangible atmosphere found in landscapes and the peaceful silence of nature. Most of her paintings are begun outside and completed in her London studio. Although working primarily in oil, Lizzie also enjoys the physicality of exploring etching with zinc and steel plates, to create intaglio prints. Lizzie Butler's artwork has been exhibited at Leighton House Museum, Kensington, London, The Russell Gallery, London, and several other Galleries. Lizzie's paintings can be found in collections in America, New Zealand, the UK and across Europe, with several customers returning to buy further paintings and place commissions. March 2019 - Two pieces shortlisted for the Royal Academy of Arts summer exhibition.
