"Perhaps the butterfly is a proof that you can go through a lot of darkness yet become something beautiful"

"The Beauty of darkness is how it lets you see"

The painting was inspired by the hip hop musician MF Doom. You may recognise the mask. How we can transform our shadows. I used a roller with gold paint to create effects in the background. I also used the oil pastels to add some colour effects on top of the paint on the body. The patterns of a butterfly is coming through her skin also on her right side.

This artwork is currently part of the Exhibition "Home Is Where The Art Is" at Zeitz Mocaa, Cape Town, South Africa

“The idea of transformation is most often symbolized by the butterfly which takes a completely different form, “trans-forms”, from one part of its life to the next”. I'm a French artist currently living in Muizenberg, Cape Town. I started L’Ecole d’Art in Chalon-sur-Saone when I was six years old. Since then, I have taken many art classes in England and in the US where I lived for nine years. When I arrived in South Africa in 2011, I started oil painting at the Studio with Carol Laws then carried on with acrylics with Anastasia Sarantinou at the Blue Planet Fine Art Studio in Muizenberg. I've exhibited some artworks at the Blue Planet Fine Art Studio. I have been painting at my own studio since 2018. My main themes are my love for nature, butterflies, people and music. I also enjoy doing collages and love mixed medium, textures, patterns as well as the gold leaf. I mostly work from my own photographs. My artwork evolves with what inspires me in my travels and in my life every day. I'm interested in the process of trans-formation of consciousness. My artworks aim to evoke transformation with the butterfly, transcendence and transmutation with the gold. To reflect on the cycle of life, the miracle of life, the sense of lightness and joy and our own divinity.
