About The Artwork

I painted a 4-part Pandemic series on the Covid-19 epidemic, focusing on human isolation, the pain and loss caused by the epidemic, and the socio-economic impacts. The inspiration for the paintings was in each case a well-known work of art. I reinterpreted the works of art and placed them in the Pandemic space. In this painting, I wanted to explore the theme of the pandemic and its impact on our lives. To do this, I used a familiar symbol of contemplation and deep thought, Rodin's "The Thinker," and added a diving mask and a glove, which are now common symbols of protection against the virus. By placing the diving mask and glove on the "The Thinker," I am suggesting that even the most contemplative and introspective among us are not immune to the effects of the pandemic. We are all now constantly aware of our physical health and safety, and this awareness can interfere with our ability to focus on the larger questions of life and existence. To further underscore this idea, I surrounded the figure of "The Thinker" with ancient columns, which evoke the weight and history of human civilization. The juxtaposition of these ancient symbols with the modern symbols of the diving mask and glove highlights the continuity of human experience, even in the face of unprecedented challenges. Overall, my painting is a reflection of the impact of the pandemic on our collective consciousness and our ability to engage with deep questions of meaning and purpose. In recent years, I have used OSB as a basis. By retracting the paint layers, I use the texture of the veneer as part of my compositions to create a unique rustic industrial atmosphere. The painting is made with self-made paint, which consists of pigments and beeswax. Does not contain oil or other paints. The encaustic is equipped with a simple wooden exhibition frame, which harmonizes with the industrial style of the painting and highlights it well. Ready to hang!

„I show the details instead of the whole, sort of inviting the viewer to embrace and understand their surroundings” Dora Stork was selected artist in the London Art Biennale in 2023, an award-winning Hungarian painter whose art has appeared in solo and group exhibitions in the UK, Hungary, and Romania. Her work can also be found in many private collections in the United States, the European Union, and Japan. Dora is an abstract realistic encaustic artist: abstract in the world of color, realistic in the world of form, and symbolist in meaning. As a politically minded painter, she is interested in public life as well as social and economic processes. She presents her particular vision in these works. The dreamlike compositions are her intuitive reflections on public issues. At the same time, seemingly astonishing, strange circumstances and inappropriate details on a rational sphere might evoke questions in the viewer. She mainly uses pure wax and pigments to make her paintings. Over the years, she has developed a medium that does not contain oil or any non-waxy additives. When she occasionally paints with acrylic, the characteristics of her figurative style transform into an imaginary interpretation of nature. Dora is an active, awarded member of her community and regularly takes part in their group exhibitions every year.
