About The Artwork
In Homer's Iliad, the goddess Iris is portrayed as the messenger to the gods. This painting is my interpretation of that story, presenting Iris in flight. The figure is painted in oil in my own particular style drawing heavily from the manner of traditional Western painting. The background was created using galkyd(a thick alkyd based painting medium), mixed with oil color and powdered metallic pigments. The galkyd background dries with a glossy finish as well as a rippled texture created by the "crazing" of the thick medium.
