Art Description

Painting: Acrylic on Canvas.

The saga of the Monkey King (Sun Wu Kong in madarin Chinese) is a fairy tale, a hero story, a myth that is ingrained in asian storytelling, in asian kids, in asian lore. Everybody knows the monkey king like every westerner knows little red riding hood. He is a powerful shapeshifter, a monkey man, a man monkey, who can turn himself into any creature, can make himself very small or very big, and carries a smalll stick that can change size like it's owner. He is of that stuff that mythical heroes are made of, yet... he has these very human traits of unruliness, egocentrism, greediness and insufferable haughtiness. He misuses his powers to get what he wants with total disregard of other people, or even simply just for fun. Only the Buddha can (and did) subdue him. He is your perfect metaphor for big governments, or big people, be they inthe west or the east, who have power, but no clear vision. Who have power, but no vision. Those whom are stricken with the 'dark triad' of psychological assets that usually make a powerful riser in our human society. (Machiavellianism, narcissism and psychopathy) The Monkey King fits our human condition in every aspect.
