This work belongs to a series called "The Queen" which addresses the question of power in the form of portraits of a queen in various postures. Here, "The Queen is Dead" speaks of the dual nature of power: both embodied in a person (the queen as a human being) and independent from that person (power is a function, regardless of the person who exercises it), which the historian Kantorowicz described in his theory of the "two bodies of the king".

With the marmoreal aspect that evokes the recumbent figures of the Middle Ages, we are here clearly in the order of the sacred function of power: it is power as an eternal and solemn symbol which is represented here, not the mortal and ephemeral human being who happened to rule for a few years.

This painting is a one-of-a-kind piece made in a mixed technique on canvas which blends together photography, digital composition and acrylic painting. The surface is shiny, with raised squares. The work is framed in a black wood (total dimensions: approximately 65 x 45 cm)
As shown on that pic, the artwork can be presented horizontally
On this side view that square painted over with acrylic and golden pigments can be seen

« In the age of digital technologies, I couldn't just be a painter or a photographer. My 'paintographies' bring down borders between techniques and offer a resolutely contemporary hybrid art. » I was born in 1975 in a small town in the French countryside and arrived in Paris in 1992 for my studies (History, English and literature). I have been a professional artist since 2007, with over 60 exhibitions across France and Europe. My artistic approach is both simple and complex. Although my work portrays a figurative aesthetic that favors clarity, it does so through a complex blending of photography, digital art, and acrylic painting. The result is a mixed technique I call ‘paintography’. My compositions highlight the fragility of the human body. I transform my model into virtual sculptures by replacing their skin with mineral materials to represent the passage of time.
