The Recovery Painting by Frances Feasey

Painting: Oil, Gesso, Color, Paint on Canvas, Wood, Soft (Yarn, Cotton, Fabric).

The Recovery is a painting inspired by the Blue Mountains NSW landscape that had been subjected to a process known as controlled back-burning. (The aim is to prevent extensive damage from a potential bush fire by strategically burning off sections). I stumbled across the bush in this state and couldn't believe there was such beauty in such tragedy. A series of paintings and drawings followed. I chose oil paint as it is my favourite medium that I feel confident and comfortable to use well. I chose the striking colours of black and red to create drama and to grab the attention of the viewer.
