About The Artwork

Inspired by nature’s ability to regenerate after damage, I’ve depicted a swirling ocean ablaze with the promise of new life. This large textural acrylic abstract painting combines wet-in-wet with transparent, semi-transparent, and iridescent impasto techniques. It’s finished with gloss varnish, and responds beautifully when lit. As with all my paintings, I aim to provide visual stimulation for both close up and distant viewing, so you’ll never tire of it because there is always something new to discover. The painting continues round the edges and is ready to hang, so framing is optional. About the surface and panel: Works on panel are more durable and long lasting than on canvas. This hand-crafted, double-braced panel made of Tasmanian-hardwood and marine-grade plywood is sealed on all surfaces with multiple coats of acrylic varnish. Italian Fabriano 100% cotton watercolour paper is mounted with acrylic gel to provide an archival surface protected from the wood. Watercolour paper on panel provides a unique subtle texture and the resilient surface is perfect for aggressive painting techniques that might damage canvas.

Like every artist I'm a product of my environment. Luckily, it's an environment of stunning nature: the bushland, rainforests, seasides, and waterways in South East Queensland and further afield. I treasure the hidden beauty of the roadsides and paths, the swamps and streams, the expanses of sky, and the intimate little corners many people just drive past. The colours and textures of my world have deep meaning for me, and my drive to share them has led to a life-long study of how light and colour work in the real world, and how they can be represented. For many years I enjoyed the simple power of watercolour, and working within that rigour taught an innate understanding and discipline. Moving to acrylics unleashed all that in a way that surprised me, and allowed me to ramp up to bigger and bolder works. I will always keep experimenting, learning, and making sense of the world through my personal art, and I’m excited to showcase and offer some of the pieces here in the hope you’ll enjoy them too. ...Brett
