The shape of perfume Cement sand, wax, gold leaf, luminous pigments, frankincense, myrrh, iridescent pigment, acrylic paint on three canvases forming a triptych. A large statement gold and luminous painting. Inspired by a visit to the ancient frescoes on the wall of the Chapter House at Westminster Abbey, of which only small remnants are visible, Also by the history of perfume, its links with medicine and science, theology and culture. Symbols painted into the concrete, gold and plaster surface of the painting are taken from the languages used to describe perfumes components and elements. These symbols may not be visible in daylight as they are painted with luminous pigments, becoming visible only in the dark when the painting takes on a whole new character. The third image shows how the painting looks in the dark (after light has been shining on it ) The three parts of the triptych represent the 3 notes of perfume, - top, middle and base. The three panels are on strong cotton duck canvas primed and gessoed, stretched over wooden stretcher frames and ready to hang using any normal type of hanging fixtures.

Anne’s painting is bound up with examination of the land, and in particular, the ephemeral, those forces and presences that cannot be seen but which change and shape the land. The work has taken her to a range of habitats to examine them in new ways and consider how each small part of our upland and lowland environment affects larger systems. Anne has a Master of Art (Fine Art) and BA Honours Degree in Fine Art from Manchester School of Art. Career highlights have included being selected for the Royal Institute of Painters in watercolour exhibition, Mall Galleries, (2024, 2023), ING Discerning Eye exhibition (2022) Sunday Times Watercolour competition (2020) and making live ice installations at the Whitworth Gallery and Victoria Baths Manchester.
