About The Artwork
With a backdrop of a beautiful lush green tropical rain forest, a Ulysses butterfly is trapped in a jar. Traditionally, the butterfly represents beauty, freedom and sometimes chaos. If we catch a butterfly; everything it represents is quickly lost. The beauty becomes decay, its freedom is no more and its desire to regain these things is chaotic. It is no different to the torment we as humans endure when one gazes through the window admiring nature, but not being apart of it. When we are, the vitality becomes beautiful, our freedom to explore undoes the chaotic world we know from our own glass jar.
