About The Artwork

This is one of my bird series which I enjoy painting, where I like to use caricature and satire, employing human mannerisms and characters in the composition. Here, I used pastel pencil and ink on a Cornwall – Hahnemuhle 450g/m (210lbs) quality archive paper. My summery for this painting is thus:- Gratitude is a virtue and sometimes it counts to show it even when one does not really feel as pleased with the situation or the gift upon them. Most times an act of kindness really does come from the heart, at times not as much, but is more a diplomatic move. We will not always know how much effort has been put behind the gesture, though time often tells us so. Ways of life can also be taken for granted, especially with those we are around most of the time. I believe it helps to have moments that keep us in check, keeping us aware of the good things coming our way. That is why balancing things is a must by reciprocating. It does not seem that way from this little fellow does it though? What an ungrateful brat! After all the effort and trouble his parent went through to find him a fancy, fat juicy grub, all he can do is gawk and gulp, probably sulk. Can he not just try to pretend and swallow what he has been offered and not hurt his father’s feelings? Tut tut! Shame! Lack of thoughtfulness that is, yes......from the one who should know better though, or the one receiving? Because, how on earth is that fledgling going to gulp something as big as him. Often, it is an expectation as it seems, one gives, the other has to take, not the case. So, a step back taken and contemplation may help gratitude roll your way, but not expected.

Jason is a painter and illustrator of various styles and different media for different ends. Principally a surrealistic and abstract artist, he has a fondness for satire and caricature, with a hint of humour fantasy and the whimsical. Nevertheless, there is a realistic and a sober aspect to some of his work too. His different genres of works are ongoing series which are added to from time to time, whether it is his Aviary, Abstract, Allegoric or any other style he employs. World events, social affairs and politics draw his attention, but he can be inspired by everything and anything seen, heard or felt. His expression can be direct or ambiguous. What is prevalent throughout his work is light, movement and flow, hardly any black is employed, leaning towards enlightenment.
