Art Description

Painting: Gouache, Acrylic, Ink, Gesso on Canvas.

'Valley of Thorns' is a metaphor for struggles, trials and tribulations, difficulties and endeavours of life . The path of life is strewn with thorns and life in essence is a 'Valley of Thorns'. This has been immortalized in the Urdu verse of great oriental poet Ghalib and you can see this on the left of the painting. The verse roughly translates as ' The lips of barbs are parched dry with thirst O' Lord . A blistered feet may wander in this valley of thorns'. This poetry is the inspiration behind the painting. I hope you like this as much as I enjoyed visualizing and painting it.
