About The Artwork
This is a small painting in watercolor and ink on cold pressed paper. I call it "The Womb" because of the almond shaped boundary formed around the center of the image, with relative calm to the left and bustling activity to the right. Inside is a magic world of growth. I utilize a wet on wet technique, laying down a series of watercolor washes on the paper and going over those washes with successive layers of thicker watercolor and ink straight from the bottle (or sometimes watered down) while the paper is still wet. I drip ink directly into pools of wet ink to achieve fractal patterning and distorted bullseye formations.

Blake Brasher is a visual artist who currently lives and works in Lowell, MA. He grew up In North Pole, Alaska, and also lived in Turkey, Texas, and Arizona before moving to Massachusetts to attend MIT. He earned a bachelor of science I. Art and design from MIT in 2003 and has also studied art at Harvard and CMU. He also works three days a week as a robotics engineer for Boston Dynamics in Waltham, MA and had a decade long career as a living statue in Harvard Square, Cambridge and other venues around the world.
