They shut the wonderful road through the woods seventy years ago. Weather and rain have undone it again, and now you would never know there was once a road through the woods. The words of Rudyard Kipling resonate through this painting as his poem tells the story of the road that was once a busy transport route, maybe for farmers taking their wares to markets, or for travellers moving from place to place. Now that it has been shut to all but walkers and animals, the woods regain slowly, what was once theirs.
