It is at the beginning of the year1976, in Quebec City, that Jymmy Forest was born. At the age of four, he moved to the St. Roch neighbourhood, alone with his mother. Quickly, he immersed himself in the chaotic spirit of a neighbourhood where coexist and overlap marked structural and social differences. Stamping in action, he is at first a dream child. He finds moments of solitude so that his overflowing imagination can come true. He retains everything, from the candy bags to the pizza boxes, for patching, assembling & varnishing. He spends entire weekends at the local library to listen to stories of Marcel Proust or Jonathan Livingstone on audio tapes. It is during his adolescence that rises his passion for clay. Around the age of 16, he even knocks at the doors of the master potters of Quebec , Mr. Michel Champagne and Henry Gérardin , seeking for lessons of their art. Enriched with these valuable tips, he then completes his first series of clay masks: sculptures of spiritual guides, such as he imagined them in the afterlife. His arrival into the world of painting happens instinctively. Beginning with the exploration of acrylic, it takes him only a short time to dive into the world of oil. In 1996 , he adopted the method that characterizes all of his work: the exclusive use of raw textiles ( cotton, silk, carpet backing , denim , linen , etc. . ) as canvas. That same year, he created a first series of the three-dimensional pieces, using a technique to attach clay sculptures to oil paintings using a glossy finish to seal the whole. A first art gallery welcomes these pieces for an exhibition that will run until the following year. Eventually, they all find buyers. The Quebec Winter Carnival selects Jymmy Forest to produce three ice sculptures, allowing him to demonstrate his learning speed. Until 1999, his works will be part of several group exhibitions in various galleries of Old Quebec, including the Quai des Artistes. EXILE TO MONTREAL .... In 2000, Jymmy Forest leaves the old capital for Montreal to learn the art of 3d modeling. He worked with Softimage for some time. He then enrolled in the School of Construction craftsmanship to learn the craft of tile. It was then the beginning of a prolific career that lasted more than a decade. He founded Pierres & Céramiques and quickly became a reference of choice in the domain of high-end tile installation.
