Fragments of Life is a series of contemporary abstract paintings rich in texture with many intriguing layers of mixed media, collage and acrylics. My creative process for these works began with an image I saw in my day to day life or a piece of found paper. Based on that original inspiration, I then choose my tools, paint colours, and mediums to best communicate and develop this concept. I apply paint and remove it, allowing layers to dry and using that time to reflect on the progress. I often work on numerous paintings at the same time. I paint with large sky flow brushes, palette knives, sea sponges, sturdy workshop rags, and even my fingers and sleeves. I do not have an exact plan or clear idea as to what the finished piece will become. This is the free flowing nature of how I paint leads me, challenges me, and its creation often helps me answer the initial question of the series. My process involves trust and perseverance.
