About The Artwork

As I gaze upon this abstract watercolor creation, I'm immediately drawn into the tempestuous dance of colors and forms that conjure the essence of a rain cloud in the midst of an emotional deluge. The central form, a maelstrom of white and gray, billows outward, as if it were the heart of the cloud itself, pulsating with the intensity of a storm's core. Around this heart, hues of deep blue and turquoise swirl with a calming energy, suggesting the tranquil periphery of the storm. Speckles of black ink streak outward like rain being flung by fierce winds, while splatters of crimson, pink, and spots of bright blue and teal burst forth like flashes of lightning or perhaps the hidden beauty that can only be seen when light filters through a tempest. The colors bleed into each other, a testament to the watercolor medium that so fluidly captures the ephemerality of weather and emotion. The droplets and splashes that adorn the canvas are reminiscent of the rain that accompanies a storm, each one a moment of clarity amid the chaos. There is a dynamic contrast at play here: the fierce energy of a storm captured with a medium so often associated with gentleness and subtlety. It's as though the piece is a visual symphony, a composition of elements that are at once volatile and harmonious, wild yet purposeful. This artwork speaks to the soul’s storms, the vibrant and tumultuous experiences that, while they may disturb the surface, enrich the depths of our being.

CV I am entranced by the human psyche. My life as an artist has forever oscillated between objective and non-objective; however, the central theme of my work has always been the emotions that surround the painting--both in the process of creating the work and the emotions elicited from the viewer. Through my use of color, marks that are full of energy and movement, and expressive titles, my artwork expresses emotions that I have no words for. I channel emotions through visual elements alone, without objective subject matter. Abstract emotions take hold best in abstract paintings. It is my desire, through my work, to promote self-reflections on a visceral, more than a purely intellectual level. Education B.A. Art (Ceramics), Fort Hays State University B.S.
