Hello, I am Lee Ah-young, an artist dedicated to exploring the relationship between nature and humanity. My work primarily utilizes traditional Korean materials such as Hanji and ink, with graves serving as a key motif. Through this motif, I aim to express emotions deeply connected to graves, such as longing, welcome, and familiarity. Graves represent spaces where we can remember and reconnect with our loved ones who have passed. Through my art, I seek to capture the significance of these sacred places as symbols of memory and loss. The act of memorializing those we cherish is depicted through 'filling' with ink, while the yearning for those who have departed is illustrated through 'emptying.' Using Hanji and ink in my traditional East Asian (Korean) paintings imbues my work with special meaning. With these materials, I strive to blend traditional methods with contemporary themes, exploring the enduring bonds between nature, humanity, and the unforgettable figures in our lives.
