TRAFFICKING FOR TIME TRADE #11 Painting

I started this series in 2016's winter, in Ólafsfjörður, a small village on the northern extreme of Iceland. The shortage of material to work with, the difficulty of locomotion due to the extreme climatic conditions and the isolation were my main assistants during the polar winter. Eventual walks through the endless nights made me feel the indefinite presence of time. There were no periods, time was time all the time. From this observation I have elaborated the theory that depicts time as an organ inherent to the human being. We are born with this organ that, within the physiological system, depending on the use and care, weakens and depletes over the years. Following this idea I deduced that the demand for recovery of lost time generated an illegal trade of time for transplantation. My mission in the boreal winter has been to document the places I passed by and noticed evidence of the existence of time storage. Blankets and other objects collected from air, road, rail or space transport became my main work material in this series. These materials have been acquired via trade of ICECOINS, also known as CHIECO CURRENCY, a currency that I created in a single edition of 86 (eighty-six) numbered notes. Each finished artwork is presented for the first time in places of my choice. The event, called DEBUT, is documented by means of photography or video, which are added to the official documents of the work. Once the DEBUT exhibition is done the work grants the right to be displayed in art institutions on invitation.
