This artwork was inspired by the designer Vivienne Westwood and deals with how we interpret words and their meaning. The guy in the painting is wearing a t-shirt proclaiming to be a true punk. He feels he is so he says it. The collective may not interpret him as a true punk so without an agreement on the meaning of a word, the word becomes meaningless. However, with the source material being styled and designed by the originator of the punk aesthetic (Vivienne Westwood) we all can collectively believe in his declaration of being a true punk. But do we always need such validation for our interpretations to be valid?
