The finishing with artificial resin makes this painting high-gloss. I like working in this small size, because of its object character and the opportunity of combination with other paintings of the same size, allowing to compose a big size mosaic of various paintings.

This painting is part of my series "Being Marilyn Monroe. Icon Portraits.", a series of self-portraits reflecting and expressing my admiration for and my identification with inspiring modern day icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Frida Kahlo, Audrey Hepburn, Maria Callas, Romy Schneider, Michael Jackson, Grace Kelly and Niki de Saint Phalle.

To Grace Kelly I feel attracted because of her talent, “grace” and noblesse. Like Maria Callas she left art for love, marrying Prince Rainier of Monaco. She changed many roles with the role of a lifetime. Grace is the incarnation of every girls dream to become a princess. And a warning too, because castles can be gilded cages.
The idea to make Me as Grace united to Fantomas has been a tip from a friend, artist Udo Linke. And we are both actually working on this couple.
"True love" is more than just a celebrity self-portrait, like in the beginning of my Icon Self-Portrait Series. It refers to the world I am living in, to personal experiences. What's in my mind is blended with how I feel and what I see around me.

My icon self-portrait series is influenced by the work of surrealist female artists like Frida Kahlo and Niki de Saint Phalle as well as by Italian author Luigi Pirandello's post-modernist approach on identity theory. And it is based on a series of coincidences, that brought me to explore and re-think the inherent nature of portraying providing a practical meaning to the American poet William Carlos Williams' quote: «The artist is always and forever painting only one thing: a self-portrait».
