Painting on upcycled blind. Wrestling with profound struggle, enduring long-term suffering, or grappling with grief and loss reshapes the very essence of a person. Yet, the surprising revelation is that the impact extends beyond the individual; others in one's orbit are also drawn into the struggle. Not all will respond with empathy. Some recoil, resisting acknowledgment, insisting that nothing has changed, uttering dismissive remarks to sidestep the reality of the situation. There's a deafening silence—no listening, no understanding, no compassion. In reflecting on my own journey, I recognise moments when I, too, was guilty of this resistance. When adversity knocked on the door of my child and me, I initially resisted the changes it brought. I perceived them as inherently negative, a force disrupting the status quo. However, as time unfolded, a profound realisation dawned—the forced changes were not only necessary but also transformative, heralding a positive shift for both of us. Learning to dance with the struggle became a pivotal point in this journey. It meant allowing it to occupy its space, acknowledging its presence without attempting to stifle or evade it. After all, everyone grapples with their own form of struggle; it's an intrinsic part of the human experience. In embracing this dance with the struggle, a profound shift occurred. As we moved together, the struggle gradually passed, making way for a new way of living—one that bore the imprints of resilience, adaptability, and acceptance. The dance with struggle ushered in changes that touched every facet of life, from mainstream education and social circles to family dynamics, business, and beyond. Through this transformative process, I discovered the beauty in embracing change, finding strength in vulnerability, and witnessing the birth of a new, more authentic way of living.

Most of these artworks were created several years ago, creatively processing the early days of learning later in life; I was Autistic (among other brain differences), and the challenges I faced when I made adjustments in my relationships based on my neurobiological differences and diverse needs. The digital artworks were created for a podcast my friend and I had together, where we unpacked our experiences as neurodivergent humans. My approach involves asking probing questions specifically created to uncover complex traumas. I developed a method of self-inquiry and introspection designed to bring awareness to one's inner world. By delving into my subconscious and exploring the reasons behind my choices, beliefs, and emotional responses, I essentially acknowledge and understand myself at a deeper level. This self-awareness is crucial in personal growth, healing, and making positive changes. I work with paint, pencil, ink, spray paint, recycled substrate, fabric, clay, and vintage materials to assist the self-understanding, acknowledging and positive change process. My work involves asking, waiting, watching, quiet listening, inner knowing, storytelling, memories and subconscious answers.
