About The Artwork

I painted the original in oil on canvas in 2008, using nothing else than the knife and the mixture of only two colors. I painted it out of my memory. The canves is stretched on a wooden frame. No outer frame is necessary.

The Intuitive Painting of Lea Schock Biographical Aspects Lea Schock is an artist trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Trier. Her studio is located not far from Metz in a station disused of the French railways. - A station? No, an island of peace immersed in lush vegetation. This building retains all its charm of yesteryear. It is there that she devotes herself entirely with an implacable discipline to the high art of painting. Sometimes one wonders whether her mistake is not to know how to paint, because in the times that run and have a Saharan sense, a certain school that claims abstraction confuses people who no longer know what lies behind canvases where nothing can be seen except the inability to trace a hand, the features of a face, an attitude. "Homage à Serge Gainsbourg." In 2007, Schock made a name for herself by fixing for posterity the fleeting images that anonymous hands had drawn on the gable of the house located rue Verneuil where Gainsbourg spent most of his life. Her exhibitions have earned her the most excellent comments from our best art critics. Every time she exposes, she is astonished at her ability to restore beauty and mystery to their place in the world of the arts. Her works are scattered in numerous private collections. Schock, the Portraitist. Schock is the born artist. The quality of her painting is best measured regarding the portraits she continues to enrich her work. Her intuition is remarkable. She knows how to take possession of a face after having long observed it. She grabs the essentials and then starts to work from memory. Often she goes with a knife, causing the reverberations of the soul to arise out of a mass of oils. She records directly a quantity of information that far exceeds what the lens of a camera could capture. Her portraits are of an absolute frankness and a delicate sympathy. The model no longer needs to be present. She integrated him. She perceives in Freud's way beyond the physical appearance of her models. She penetrates their spirit and descends into the depths of the soul. This artist works at an astounding pace. A few hours of sharp concentration and here is a character out of the shade. Her work is subject to immense discipline. Nothing is left to hazard. Schock, the Situation Painter Her white paintings on a black background are wonders. In a climate of peace and serenity, she seizes the human in his moments of inner life.
