About The Artwork
A large watercolour of the Italian town, Umbertide, which sits alongside the River Tevere that flows down to Rome. The landscape features Umbertide's main featuers, castle tower, strange octagonal church and museum, which holds an original Signorelli in-situ. In the background are the mountains of Monte Acuto and Corona and the Civitella Ranieri castle. The large tree on the right is a reference to the artist Duccio who worked in nearby Siena. The painting explores the large open valley with its surrounding hills and gives a feeling of the Italian landscape in central Italy favoured by many Renaissance painters.

Studied a degree in glass design at Stourbridge College of Art in the 1980s and for a number of years ran a stained glass studio in South Wales. After a period working in the rat race I decided that life would be more fun if I sold up, moved to Italy and started painting. So for the last six years I have been painting and writing in Umbria, in a village just north of Assisi. The surrounding countryside and renowned artists of the area have acted as a constant source of inspiration for my works.
