This piece is a collage of sketches I did from an abandoned structure in down town Lethbridge. It is a representation of the reflection upon my own development and condition. I am a piece yet unfinished. sometimes we reach a particular stage in life and maybe we stay there. We hang in limbo or we reflect and seek a direction for growth. Sometimes the growth is unnoticed or even unplanned. Some of us cease to grow and remain in the same state of unfinishedness for years. This reflection can also apply to skills. As an artist I seek to improve my skills. I don't necessarily know which direction will improve it. So, I try knew approaches. (at least new to me) I change the angle of approach or colour palette. Regardless, I pay attention to the feeling between myself and the work. The conversation here is of the utmost importance. If I move on before I'm ready the work will suffer. There comes an awareness of when things need to change. Similar to adolescence. As one becomes an adult there is an awareness that you are too old to do the things you once did. Those things are still appealing, but not as satisfying. Eventually they lose their appeal altogether. It is time for new things. Change is constant. Growth or decay.

Canada
I currently live in Lethbridge, AB, CA. I have recently returned to the art world. I had put my career on hold to help raise our children. I am thrilled the creative taps came on at full capacity and I have the makings of three exhibitions in my sketchbook since I made the decision a few months ago. I work primarily in oil on canvas and plywood panel. The new ideas in my sketchbook, however, will see me trying my hand at cold casting, wood work and possibly an installation piece. The first body I am working on is a self study project. I am creating a series of self portraits in various mediums; oil, water colour, drawing mediums and print. I wanted a subject that was easily accessible. I also wanted to test how well I know something I see every day. Some of these are realistic portraits. Some are blind contour experiments and some move into an abstract minimalistic appearance.
