About The Artwork

This project is a study on the nature of the human psychological traits and psychological states, that take course on the under-layers inside the being, when feelings, sensations and thoughts intertwine each other during the happening of a certain event. „Unidentified Human Portraits” is a project that involves in the same amount the unknown and the familiar, it is the encounter between mystery and disappointment, between surface and depth, between looks and essence, it is a portrait of the self reflected world, a blend between interior and exterior. I am making reference to two worlds, the physical world respectively the world of ideas , and to this kind of encounter which happens simultaneously and has effects on both plans. The portraits are clearly defined works, easily identifiable as far as the formal perspective, but generally symbolically limited. The abstraction is intentional as far as using the shape of the human head like a pretext, a vessel for the painting experiment. Otherwise the abstraction is uncontrolled, born out of encountering reality, which in this case it can consist of any kind of major psychological experience, carved on both existential planes. The works expose ideas as they travel towards the inside of the being, the convergence beyond their philosophical and abstract nature into representations that have influence over the spectator. When we enter into an emotional state while staying independent from the event that is causing it, we may identify with the eluding mechanism that governs the senses and sensations. The important moments of these encounters are not underlined dramatically, but through an accident, a semi-failure, a fall. Everything that happens on the inside stays inside, and it does not have to be explained, it has to be felt. The works do not portray a certain character, they do not seek an identification of some kind, but a generality which has a personal meaning, coded in a stain, a gesture, or texture. The „Unidentified Human Portraits” annulled the identification, avoiding descriptive narratives or illustrative. Rather abstract then figurative they will try to catch traits that go beyond the physiological, becoming an emotional portrait built out of textures, gestures , emotions. A pretext portrait of a self-portrait, a self identification into the other. They are stamp portraits of the presence, of the face that does not want to be identified but rather affirmed as presence. They are portraits of the emotional states, identifiable with the human presence but unconditioned by it.

Painting is an intimate journal, a way to understand the world and to act upon it, with a gesture, significance, a statement. Painting is active participation. Every impression, any experience they find an echo in the impulse of the pictorial gesture. It is the recreation of a real moment with the addition of ”self”, with the sign of participation. For me, painting is existential confirmation, participation in moments and miracles that later contain me in the painting. Painting is a journey without destination through the world and time. It has no destination because there is no purpose, just process, living, joy or pain. It is the journey in which, in order not to lose yourself, you must leave a sign.
