About The Artwork

Daniel is a incredible tattoo artist residing in Capetown, South Africa. I saw him walking on the street one day and asked if i could paint him, he agreed and we took some photos. Two years later i decided to do this painting. The premise of the painting is two friends meeting up for some drinks (red wine) and a catch up and Daniel has to leave in a hurry. We are unsure why he has to leave in a hurry and this is up to the viewer to decide. Wine will get spilled but friendships will last, so 'until we meet again'. I painted this with thicker paint and vibrant colors to create the urgency of the situation and the only pure black oil is in his ring and the only pure white is in the wine glass highlight. The splash in the background was created by me dropping paint from a tall ladder in my studio to create visceral movement.
