About The Artwork

Possibly my most unsettling piece, I created this during my biggest battle with depression and anxiety. When you feel alone misused, and abandoned, you become trapped in your own thoughts. You start to believe that maybe the world is better off without you, but these are not your biggest battle. Your biggest battle is trying to pretend that everything is okay until you are in the confines of your own home, alone again. What's worse is when you believe that you’re doing a good job of hiding it while some can still see your pain through your eyes. This was also around the time that I became fascinated with the idea of having psychedelic experiences. While I'm not a user of substances i often wonder, the feeling of being able to escape reality, to periodically be numb to all the things that cause us hurt. Then I reflect on great inspirations like Jean Michael Basquiat who we’ve lost to substances. The two sided war between drug induced creativity and overall well being. What if the art that we love are distracting us from the blatant cry out for help that lies beneath them.
