About The Artwork
The work was inspired by several of the American Abstract Expressionists who rose to prominence in the 1950s and 60s such as Clifford Still, Helen Frankenthaler and Mark Rothko. The artwork allows several different colours to exist in close proximity to one another and shows how varying tone within a particular colour can alter the visual perception of the viewer. I chose acrylic paint for this work as I felt its properties would allow me to achieve this tonal variation.
