Venice, Waterseries No. 4 Painting

Britt seeks out her inspiration on meandering trips through the city and beyond, faithfully carrying her sketchbook and paint palette to impromptu sites. Building on the tradition of plein air painting, her small format works weave a tapestry of colors and textures, often capturing the competing fields of the manmade environment and natural world. Oscillating between figurative detail and flowing abstraction, each piece exists on a continuum between drawing and painting. Hayes brings the malleability of human perception into focus with her rapid sketch strokes. These works live in-the-moments of the serendipitous excursions through which they are made. Hayes currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
