Susie is a fine artist based in Bristol, UK. She specialises in painting landscapes and city-scenes using a variety of mediums, including pen and ink, watercolour, acrylic and oil. The size of her work ranges from large scale oil paintings to pen and ink postcard sketches. Her recent exibitions have focused on Bristol’s architectural landscapes, presenting a bold and comtemporary vision of Bristol. ‘Rooftops & Archways’ (2018),‘Streets, lanes and skylines’(2014, 2016) and ‘Postcards from the road: sketches from Bristol to Brindisi’ (2013, 2014). About her latest work, Susie states that: “The aim is to present a bold and contemporary vision of Bristol. This collection presents a freer series of paintings than previous exhibitions, capturing the spirit and vibrancy of the city. My work is inspired by how the natural world impacts on our built environment. How a change in light, weather or season can transform our daily city landscape. ‘Rooftops and Archways’ is about revealing the hidden parts of Bristol and presenting the city in a new light”. Susie began working full time as an artist in 2013, after a 10 year career in social policy and research for a national children’s charity. The decision to change career was made during a 3,000 kilometre cycle trip from Bristol to the heel of Italy where she sketched a pen and ink postcard every day of the to capture the journey. This sketches became the subject of her first exhibition ‘Postcards from the road: sketches from Bristol to Brindisi’, 2013. Returning to live in her hometown of Bristol, she began to exhibit and sell her work locally through galleries, arts and craft markets and arts trails. Her current work focuses on landscapes and city-scenes of the city including the iconic streets of Royal York Crescent, King Street and Christmas Steps. Drawn to the city’s hidden streets and architecture contrasting against the sky, she travels around by bike, on foot and by water capturing new perspectives of the city in sketch form to then work up as full paintings in her studio. Susie is actively pursuing a career as a full time artist, she is building awareness of her work locally and gaining private commissions. As well as original paintings, she sells her work as cards and limited giclee prints. She is a member of the Bristol Art Collective.
