About The Artwork
Who doesn't enjoy a day at the beach? Nothing enervates the soul more than warm sunlight, a fresh breeze, gentle waves (or huge, if you're a surfer), and sugary sand. I live on the coast of Maine which has dozens of wonderful, unique beaches, which I've celebrated in a series of small paintings I call the Beach Day Series. Rather than depict the rocky coastline as many great artists have, I've focused on the sparkling colors that such places bring to mind. I hope my Beach Day Series bring you fond recollections of your own beach day memories. In this particular painting, I've introduced an element of mystery. What indeed lies below the surface of the waves? Something foreboding or dangerous? Sharks? An undertow?
