About The Artwork

Invoking the spirit of the west coast of Scotland. Three fishing boats at anchor in lively waters. "Which One First?" The narrative is in the viewers grasp. I often include a story within the work. All within the coastal context, seas, lochs and highlands. On my way to the mainland I pass sealochs.Large expanses of brackish water open to the sea at one end. In the past puffer steam boats would sail in carrying all kinds of goods from one sea town to another. Fishing boats also, As I pass during windy weather, the surface becomes whipped up with all manner of waves and ships anchor, waiting for better seafaring weather This is the inspiration for 'which One First?'. The ships playing "I dare you" as to which vessels breaks anchor and heads out to sea. www.wildshoreart.com My studio is yards from the Atlantic on the west coast of Scotland. I observe and paint the life I see each day. www.wildshoreart.com

Andrew Herridge , Western Isles, Scotland, UK. www.wildshoreart.com Actively painting for over 35 years. Working from a tiny island in the Inner Hebrides Works are painted, mixed media, prints or textile. Art of perception, action and narrative. My artworks; paintings and mixed media, evolve organically from life's everyday glances. Each layer determines and guides the next. My work explores relations between existentialism and perceived reality. What we see and what we think. I tread a path through observations and emotions. My inspiration: a contemporary life and the natural history of a north European country. I search for inspiration every day, to reach feelings, opinion and attitudes hidden below the surface of everyday appearances.Influences on our everyday lives. A record of fleeting sensations. Influences: Ravillious, Frost, Fedden, Hepworth, Hockney, Piper, McKnight Kauffer What I am looking for? My eye is looking for a connection, to build on and continue my art dialogue. The result: a reveal through a secret mirror of unvoiced reflections. Andrew Herridge has been painting for some 35 years, mainly in watercolours, gouache or acrylics. Often with a narrative theme to be found in the work.
