"White Roses" Painting

Michele Silva is a Luso-American oil painter, author, and educator whose work explores colour, light, and the quiet moments that connect us to the natural world. Born in New York City to Portuguese parents, she now lives and paints in Portugal, where the Atlantic coastline, gardens, and landscapes continue to inspire her work.
For more than four decades, Silva has worked primarily in oils, developing an expressive, impressionistic style distinguished by vibrant colour and confident brushwork. Her paintings range from dramatic seascapes and luminous florals to still lifes and landscapes, always seeking to capture not simply a place, but its atmosphere and emotional resonance.
A recurring element in many of her paintings is the solitary figure, often seen from behind and absorbed in contemplation. These figures invite the viewer to pause, becoming participants rather than observers. They suggest a moment outside of time—a quiet eternity in which nature, memory, and the human spirit meet.
Silva studied under Charles Pasquelina at the Roslyn School of Painting in New York and received a scholarship to the Art Students League of New York through the Pastel Society of America. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Art and Child Development and has spent many years teaching art and fostering creativity in both the United States and Portugal.
Her paintings have been exhibited in the United States and Portugal and are held in private collections internationally. Whether painting the sea, a summer garden, or a simple arrangement of flowers, Michele Silva seeks to create works that evoke wonder, reflection, and the enduring power of colour.
