About The Artwork

This is the second artwork form the series "Wild thoughts at 3am". In June of this year (2023) I learned that I had breast cancer, this terrible news was from nowhere because I am the first woman in my family who has it. Of course I was in shock, there are so many taboos around this desease that I was pretty frightened... forced to make a pause in my life and suddenly all became cancer, even my artwork. I had no head to think in other thing even the pieces I was working on lost meaning and had to put aside. So I started not sleeping and having very crazy thoughts, wild ones, hence the name of the series and one of those nights diving in my emotions trying to grow positive from them making a tribute for all those women who live with cancer and keep on going with their lives by painting beautiful engaging artworks of breasts. To think of my breasts as this beautiful jellyfishes, wild creatures diving through dark waters is to acknowledge the strength that is required that to move forward without losing faith with the only certainty that one lives with cancer. There are good days and bad days with a promise of regaining health.

Karina is a visual artist, illustrator and graphic designer currently based in Mexico City, for her the experience of painting is a total immersion where emotions, concepts, thoughts and everyday life become strokes and brushstrokes. Her work is an invitation to introspection, a state of mind of peace and intimacy, she seeks the meaning of common, everyday and transitory situations. He seeks to make tangible the intangible experiences by addressing themes such as the psyche of women, sensuality through the use of archetypes, mythological figures and their symbolism. Her dual training allows her to combine both disciplines making the use of color and her brushwork versatile and thus enriching the message that each work seeks to convey and leave something in the viewer.
