ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Long before Mykonos became synonymous with all-night dance clubs and insatiable revelers, it was known as the “Island of the Winds”. The moniker likely explains the numerous quaint windmills that dot the Mykonian landscape, none more famous than the “Kato mili” windmills. Standing imposingly on a hillside overlooking the sea near Chora (aka Mykonos Town), the windmills were built by the Venetians in the 16th century. These presupposing white structures are no longer turning their sails to mill flour, but they stand stoically against a luminous blue backdrop enticing artists to attempt to capture their beauty. “Wind and Sapphire Skies” is an original painting (16 x 20 inches unframed) of acrylic on galley-wrapped canvas, and framed in a black modern frame, ready to hang.
