Artist: Jim Shanahan Medium: Oils on Canvas Title: Wonder Painted in Oils on Canvas, this painting is inspired by my desire to create beautiful and uplifting scenes which bring to our senses the moments of magic, which we often miss as we rush through our everyday lives. The small girl is next to flowers which are above her, and her viewpoint is different from ours. She sees the world from her viewpoint, which is different but physically and mentally from ours. Her world is smaller than ours in that she lives only in the moment, and does not think about the past or future. She is totally focused on the present as it unravels in front of her. This scene incorporates ideas from a number of places, and the colours I chose to enhance and blend as best I could imagine. I painted the background without detail in green, to bring the viewer's concentration to the foreground. This painting is available as prints for the moment. I hope that it will bring many hours of viewing pleasure to those who purchase a print. Thank you for your interest in my art.

I was born and grew up in Dublin, Ireland, where I live and work presently. I have strong family connections with Tipperary, and I often enjoy to visit there, to enjoy the beautiful Irish countryside. I am relaxed and inspired by being in the outdoors. I paint in oils on canvas in a realistic style. I enjoy the vibrant colours and texture of oils. I use artists grade oils for their richness of pigment. My paintings are inspired from observation and imagination. I love nature and the great outdoors and I am interested in portraying people within such environments within my paintings. I am inspired by artists who use colour in a vibrant way to create realistic paintings, which are also more than just a direct replica of what is observed. Artists who inspire me include Nicholas Verrall, Gustav Klimt, Van Gogh and Stephen Quiller.
