About The Artwork

This encaustic work was inspired by the acorn woodpecker. Their red cap is very bright and looks like a beret. I watched an acorn woodpecker through my studio window for most of the afternoon, it went back and forth. Now I realize it was probably more than one! I was inspired by the acorn woodpecker's color and tenacity; and I've seen what they can do to a tree! I embedded a piece of bark into the wax as part of an authentic, crafty effect. Acorn woodpeckers live in groups of 3-10. All work together drilling holes in a single tree and gathering acorns which they stuff into the holes. They all take turns sitting on the nest and after hatching, they all feed the young. I find this a fascinating social adaptation; their survival is dependent on this system of cooperation. The work is professionally framed in a solid redwood frame. It is "floating"in the frame, which means none of the edges are covered. The measurements with frame are: 9 1/8" (L) x 9 1/2" (W) x 1 3/16" (D). Ready to hang. The wood used to paint on is birch, and the paints are from R&F Handmade Encaustics Paints, a professional grade artist wax based paint.

Evers is currently working in the outdoors, as her studio, bringing the power and majesty of the Sierra Nevada to canvas and paint. She expresses the peace, power, life and joy of nature to her paintings - something she feels is not always possible in the confines of a studio. Working on themes of climate change and and her ever evolving relationship with the trees, wildlife and mountains. Expressing glimpses of transcendence and beauty in her paintings. "Capturing the profound expression of an artist’s inner greatness, Spirit Resonance is a timeless concept in a shifting world. Tracing back to the 6th century scholar Xie He, this principle asserts that something ineffable is transmitted from artist to artwork in the act of creation." - "Three Thousand Years of Chinese Painting" Evers lives and works in the Sierra Nevada mountains of northern California, USA.
