About The Artwork

The main idea of this picture is the unity of nature and man. In Slavic culture, a wreath of fresh flowers on the head had a very deep sacred meaning. Since ancient times, during the celebration of the summer solstice, Slavic girls decorated their heads with wreaths of fresh flowers. Two days before the solstice and on this day, herbs are collected, as they are considered the most healing. Girls wove wreaths of herbs and flowers, made wishes. It was believed that this gives strength and gives youth. Watercolor Daniel Smith and Rembrandt on Arches Satin 300g paper

Svetlana Kotova is a professional artist and designer. Born in 1984 in Moscow, USSR, she is a graduate of Moscow Academic Art Lyceum of the Russian Academy of Arts (diploma in theater artist) and A.N. Kosygin Moscow State Textile University, Department of Graphic Design. Svetlana has worked in various fields such as illustration, graphic design and interior decoration, and is experienced in using various materials including watercolor, oil, acrylic, tempera and graphite. She enjoys working with unusual combinations of materials and textures as well as working in various stylistic directions. Svetlana's passion and love for art has been influenced by the work of famous artists like Klimt, Katsushika Hokusai, Van Gogh and Pierre-Joseph Redoute In her opinion, it is important to be in constant motion and notice the beauty in the little things. At the moment she has found herself working with watercolor. With this material it is crucial to feel the air and light. Watercolor does not tolerate uncertainty and requires from the artist precision and clean execution. Any change on the sheet, whether it is washing off or redrawing can produce dirty colours and work can be ruined by one uncertain stroke. This is exactly what attracts Svetlana to watercolor painting - its thoughtfulness and at the same time sonority. Svetlana is also a participant of various exhibitions and art projects.
