About The Artwork
This piece is an expression of the deep, almost painful, longing one experiences for a distant or lost lover. This feeling is eluded to in the Portuguese word "saudade". The painting has a deep texture consisting of layered streaks of red acrylic, which build up to resemble something akin to muscle tissue in the heart. The painting is finished in a semi-gloss varnish and is made to be framed, not re-stretched.
