Created in 2018, this painting is representative of an era where I began to allow for experimentation with non-traditional painting methods (in this case spray paint), alongside the style of painting I had developed over the previous decade and indeed allowed to effloresce since even a decade previous to that. Therefore paintings from this time exhibit a firmly grounded experimentative style of my own, the culmination of 20+ years of working with paint in ways which I strived to lie somewhere within or, at least to my mind, to reside in the Avantgarde. I feel that I achieve a style which is suited to the addition of spray paint, a slight feel of street art incorporated into my work, something of a juxtaposition or indeed antithesis between the old and new. In my humble contribution to movement in the art world, somewhere in here I modernised the modern, achieving a level of movement in the piece that symbolises or indeed embodies the very movement of my own through figurative to abstract expressive, to using a constantly fresh style of painting which embraces the new, all the time in respect of the old, that which is traditional. This piece, amongst other things, such as movement of the human figure, serves as an abstract representation, definitely symbolism, of the hugely iconic, often masonic, whilst multi-cultured and enduring throughout history and most likely eternally, All-seeing Eye... Exuding a feeling of underlying happiness, even gestural sprightliness in the traverse of the eye across and throughout the piece, the eye itself retains a stern and all-encompassing, solemnity to its omniscience. A pre-eminent knowledge of the movements of human beings throughout our lives, throughout all time. The All-seeing Eye in one form or another, is understood across culture and time all over the world, in life, in dreams, in the collective subconscious even, perhaps one of the world since human residence's most recognised, recorded, even revered motif's, certainly a symbol used by us since ancient times to an extent that resounds in a ubiquity perhaps comparable to time or life itself. Undoubtedly it is often associated with the higher power assumed of a God. The omniscient oculus, omnifarious, omnipresent... I opted to frame this painting with a distressed 19th Century Silver Gilt Cove Frame, an item I came across in a search for a frame that compliments the piece as a juxtaposition, an antithesis of old and new, a transition from traditional painting techniques to a contemporary approach, symbolising respect and honour of artistic traditions past, whilst hunger, vigour, and Thrive for The New, The Contemporary, The Extemporaneous...
